HONG KONG RIFLE
ASSOCIATION
Mid-Week Spoon And Practice Shoot
OPENING SHOOT OF NEW SEASON
The third season of the Hong Kong Rifle Association opened yesterday afternoon, when the usual Spoon and Practice Shoot was held on the Army Ranges at Kowloon City.
In spite of the absence of the 2nd Bn. Royal Welch Fusillers and the 1st Bn. Royal Ulster Rifles, and of other members of the Regular Fighting Services, the target accommodation was fully em- played, while a number of members belonging to the 1st Bn. Sea- forth Highlanders took part in theshoot using the "1914" rifle for the Arst time.
Attention is drawn to the re- gulation in force at all Associa- tion's Spoon Shoots whereby the handicap of a member will not be determined until he has Aired three times. He may only take a spoon, if qualified to do so, on and after the date of his third shoot, as regards those spoons awarded on Handicap Scores. It will be noticed from the resulte given below, that a number of competi- "tors shooting with the "1914" rifle did so yesterday afternoon for the first time. and in their case while they are eligible to compete for the spoon awarded for the best nett score, it is ob- vious that they will have to shoot two more separate occasions before a handicap 13 awarded them.
по
A further point which we are asked to bring to the notice of all members is that, (as always stated at the bottom of the scores which are given in these weekly reports), the handicap shown against each winner, whether of a "nett" or "handleap" spoon, is reduced by one point, and is shown accord- Ing, eg. in the scores given below. in the S.R. (b) class, L/Cpl. Down- SHIMONOSEKI Ing. won the handicap spoon with a handicap of 4, and thus his new handicap is now 3, as shown.
Members are reminded that be- fore the end of the present, year, there are no less than four Empire "competitions to be shot for, two with the service rifle and two with

the small bare or "miniature" rifle. The two events which are to be fired on the open range are those belonging to the N.R.A. Overseas Match, and this year the Local Rifle Association has taken full advantage of the new ruling. whereby the Colony will be repre- sented by one team shooting with the rifle as issued" while the other other will fire, as formerly, with the "1914" or S.R. (b) weapon.
As regards the "miniature" rifle events, a Sub-committee has been set up by the Council to make the necessary arrangements, and to ensure that facilities are available for practising on the 25 Yds. range.
