OF BARBARISM

Continued from Pars 1.)

A squadron of 18 Japanese bomb- erg visited Ninghai and unloaded their bomb-racks over that city but the damage done was only slight although the air raid on Nantae brought further evidence of the Japanese penchant for bombing non-combatants, a large number of civilians having been reported killed as the result of this latest example of brutality

World opinion-which from the very beginning was against this uncalled for display of military strength (some prefer to describe it'as barbarism) by Japan-is now even more bitter against this ruth- less killing of innocent civilians, and from more than one corner comes the demand for economic sanctions against Japan If and when these demands ure met Japan will be in a sorry plight. Meanwhile they continue to pursue a policy of annihilation.

In the Pelping-Hankow area three Japanese planes are reported to have been shot down. Three air raids on Amoy and one on Nan- king were successfully beaten off. Indications are that the Chinese are gaining ground each day. while the Japanese military au- thorities continue to make urgent requests for mere financial grants for the North China campaign, but how long will they be able to do this. and will Japan's non mill- tarists tolerate this for very much longer? The answers to these questions are too apparent to even need any mention here.

The Japanese planes again powerdived from well within the Settlement.-- Beuter.
