WORLD PEACE

(To The Editor, "The Hong Kong:

Sir,--Fortunately for mankind and civilization' the present fight- ing in North China has revealed to the World the sterling qualities of the God-fearing and Peace- loving Chinese nation.

As the time has come to stop war and aggression, I recall that that fifty years ago in 1887, when I returned

and from Australia started to organize the Chinese Revolution and the movement for Reform and Indendence and open the way for my old friend and colleague, the late Dr. Sun Yat- sen and his followers of the Kuo Min Tang Party with the help of

Dear Sir.-I had always rather discounted Shanghai's criticism of the Hong Kong mind and Hong Kong's aloof hospitality, but I am bound to say that the recent.de- cision to accommodate the luck- less refugees driven out of Shang- hai in the utterly unsuitable en- vironment and miserable living ac- commodation of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Stands defeals me entirely and in future we can only admit to the worst that Shanghol can say of us.

A painful feature attached to this Area is the fact that at the very first malarial survey made in the Colony by the Naval Surgeon then attached to the Singapore Base, he discovered the famous 57 varieties of Mosquitoes in the Wong-Nel-Chong Stream Bed; to this day this grievious menace "has not been intelligently dealt with." |

All this when at the University not to mention Stanley College, tle Peak Hotel and many other places which spring to mind we have comparatively luxurious ac- commodation standing vacant and, in addition at the first-named a ready-made staff in the Professors.
