stretch of the imagination, be in- terpreted as favourable to Japan. Even Italy and Germany have held their propaganda hörses, and I don't wonder at it in view of their excursions into the war in Spain. I feel that I am right in saying that the moral support of the world is on the side of China in the present trouble. But more than moral support is needed from the world Powers if China is to develop her splendidly conceived modernisation plan. There must be tangible proof of the world's confidence in her. If China, as 1 feel sure she will. emerges with honour from this deplorable con- tretemps with Japs, then she should have a backing which will place her in the forefront of Astatic nations. Japan. on the other hand, by her policy of "smash and grab." will have en- gendered the passive antipathy if not the actual hatred of the De- mocratic nations of the world. It is then that China's great time will come, and if she will discern between those who desire to exploit her and those who sincerely desire to help to develop her, there can be no doubt as to the ultimate of her national re: construction plan.
My point is that China has gain 1 she stands everything to united throughout the present crisis, but if she deviates in any particular from her sagely set by her leaders, then, for many, many years, she will sacri- fce the good-will and earnest support of the major nations of the world.

China has shown her masterly restraint in "taking it" from the Japanese tormentor. She is show-
ing her united power by with- standing the further torments of that aggressor. When she emerges
from this tremendous trial she
have
must demonstrate to the world that "It's glorious to giant's strength. but it's tyrannous
to misuse it."
The world may owe much to China... bub. always remember, China owes much to the world.
