PROGRESS OF DESTROYER
PROGRAMME
With the delivery of H.M.S. In- trepid from the Cowes shipyard of J. Samuel White and Co., Limited: seven of the "I" class destroyers of the 1935 programme have now been completed. The two out- standing vessels are the Ivanhoe, at Scotstoun, and the Impulsive, at Cowes. The former should ne ready this month.
The leader of the flotilla, H.M.S. Inglefeld. Captain A. G. Talbot, accompanied by the lex, have let Portsmouth, for the Mediterranean. The only vessel of the class which has already arrived at Malta is the Isis, which embarked at Gibraltar the guns from the damaged Hunter. These three ships should be joined by the four others which have now been com. pleted the Icarus. Imogen. Im perial. and Intrepid-by about the end of the month.

GIRL'S GRATITUDE Several cases were dealt with one of during the meeting. In these it was stated that a girl aged 15 years, whose mother' was killed in the gasworks explosion in 1934 and had been maintained by the Society at the Victoria Home ever since, at a cost of $80 per year. had received a sum of $500 from the Gas Company as compensa" tion, and that she wished to make a present of the sum to the Society. It was reported that the girl, who wished to be trained as a nurse. had done excellently at school, all
her reports being very favourable. Last year, the Society decided to keep the girl at school for a fur-. ther four years, the position to be reviewed at the end of every year.
After discussion, it was decided to accept the sum of $500, but that
