NORTH CHINA SITUATION
Japanese Prepare For War
Nanking, August 11.
The Japanese militarists fearing that the coming northern drive of the Chinese armies is for the purpose of ousting them from North China and Manchuria, It is reported that the Japanese forces in North China are being heavily re-inforced in prepara- « tion for a second war with China.
At 6 p.m. on August 9, a strong force of Japanese troops be- gun their advance into the Chinghal District, where they came. in contact with the Chinese troops.
Fighting lasted up till 11 p.m., at night, when the Japanese troops were repulsed. The Japanese troops of the Pelping-Hankow sector are now in occupation of the Pang Tse Railway Station, 18 It from Chang- sin-tien in the west.
In the south they are in occu- pation of Po-tin and Liang-halang City, where they have planted machine-guns on its walls.— Chinese Evening Press.
SHANGHAI TENSION RELAXES
