The Hospital is in the care of the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Bau. Tsu Zung. (a Government Medical Oncer) who has a number of young house-surgeons working under him and a staff of about 38 nurses and probationers. They all must pass a competitive examina- tion which is held in the vernacu- lar, and which is in conjunction with that of the Chinese Nurses in the Government Hospitals.
EAST, AND WEST
The medicines of both East and west are employed at the Kwong wah, and while at least fifty pa tients per day ask for Western medicine, an even larrer number (sometimes as many as four hun- dred per day) prefer to be treated with Chinese remedies. In the latter, herbs are much used, and are given in the form of a brew.
Going through the wards the observer cannot fail to notice the cleanliness combined with the absolute simplicity of all arrange- ments. While there is nothing superfluous, there is everything es- h.P-sential, and to give mote would be
