WHOLESALE WITHDRAWAL OF JAPANESE RESIDENTS

Tokyo: The wholesale withdrawal of Japanese residents from Wachang, Hankow, Changsha, Kinklang. Chinking and other towns on the Yangtze River has been completed under the escort of Japanese gunboats and they are now concentrated in Shanghai for shipment- home according to an official report. A Nanking message says that. this unprecendented measure has apparently shocked the Chinese authorities who see in it the manifestation of the gravity of the situation and firm determination of the Japanese Government to pursue its fixed policy.
