RANGER WINS

AGAIN

Third Consecutive Success

Newport, R. L. Aug. 4. Mr. Haroid 8. Vanderbilt's Ran- ger outpaced the British challeng- er for the America's Cup in the third-race of the series to-day, thus making victory almost certainty. Ranger

Naval vessels and yachts were decorated to-day in honour of Queen Elizabeth's birthday, but British spirits were not exactly soaring. Odds of ten to one were being offered against Endeavour and there were no takers.

The race was windward" and and a ten-mile-an-hour wind was blowing. Ranger crossed the line a length ahead of the callenger and immediately salled through Endeavour's lee.

Ranger was apparently having trouble with her big quadrilateral, but footing faster and pointing higher, she gradually went into the ascendancy and rounded the halfway buoy half a mile ahead In the approximate time of two hours three minutes 30 seconds. Endeavour's time for the distance Was two hours three minutes 55 seconds which compares with Rainbow's previous record of two hours four minutes 25 seconds, established in 1934.

Tae £10,000 opium confiscation claim wmch has been before Mr. Justice C. G. Alabaster for some time was concluded at the Sup- reme Court yesterday when judg ment was reserved.

The claim was by the Bank of Taiwan, Ltd., and H. S. M. R Kazerooni and Sons, merchants of Bushire, Perala for £10,000 for loss of a cargo of opium which was seized by the Chinese Government" at Shanghai in November, 1930. The defendant were Richmers Rhederni A.G., owners of the s.s. Mr. Eldon Potter K.O., and Mr. H. C. Macnamara were instructed by Mr. R. A. Wadeson, of Dea- cons, for the plaintiffs, while Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C.. and the Hon. Mr. Leo D'Almada, were in- structed by Mr. D. Blake, of Wil- kinson and Grist, for defendants. Mr. H.A. Reds, barrister-at-law; Shanghai was also in court for

defendants.
