weekly share report, and market review issued at noon to-day

states:--

Markets have been on the quiet side all the week, but there have one of two bright spots among local descriptions, with Marsman Hong Kong China shares the bright particular star. These came in to sudden demand mid- week, sympathetically with sharp rise to 29/44 in the Tondoɑ quota- tion for Marsman Investments. Presumably new developments in the Marsman Group following upon the return of Mr. Marsmar to Manila, are responsible for this revival of activity in his com- panies's stocks. The locally re- gisteded shares had sales from $28.90 6/6 up to 8 and close in buying

demand at 7/9.

Hong Kong utility issues had their fair share of the moderate week's turnover: transactions taking place in Electrics between $61 and $60.65, China Lights from $14) down to $14.20, and Trams at $15.10. and later at $15. Tele- phones (old) sold at $30 and the New at $11.70. Star Ferries are wanted at $87 after sales at $871 and Yaumatis at $28.

Cements have eased back to $151 and Ropes to $5.05. Dairy Farms "continue to be taken between $281 and $27: last business being Lane reported at the high rate. Crawford are just nominal at $8.60 and Watsons at $51.

- Sales were effected in Ewos at Sh.$16.60 and the Rights are want- ed at 8h $4. Shanghai Cottons are Sh.$120 buyers.

Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels gave way to $7.10, but have 'now steadied to buyers at this. Lands sold at $281 and are still enquired for, Humphreys are $9 bid and Realtys $6.35.

HK and Whampoa " Docks dropped sharply to $33. a fall of' $1 on the week; bu near these levels, buyers are again taking an Interest, Wharves are also lower at. $117. Providents (old) were active between $2.50 and $2.40, the lower being the current middle. quotation. The New are down fur- ther to 60 cta Steamboats have buyers at $81 and Union Water- boats at $9.30.

Insurance - share are rather easier, chiefly from lack of Invest ment interest, which is usual at this season Cantons are either side of $305. Unions $825, Hong Kong Fires $280 nomind and Chiria Underwriters $2.

Hong Kong Banks have dropped considerably, following the decline in the London quotation to £1181 and at $1915 the closing bid price they are $50 lower over the week Bank of East Asia have been taken up to $100 and continue in de mand.

Suver prices were higher yesterday to the extent of 1/8 for Ready and 3/16 for Forward. Silver advices reported India having bought. Offerings were small.
