London, June 30, The Air Ministry announces that TOKYO......

It reached a height of 53,937 feet or 16.440 metres which is 2,575 feet greater than the figure reached by the Italian pilot, Lieut.-Col. Marta Pezzi last month, and 3,993 feet, or 1,217 metres more than the height achieved by Squadron Leader Swain last Autumn. The Italian figure has not yet been homologated.

HIGH PRAISE FOR PILOT This, is the second occasion on which the Royal Air Force has successfully attempted to secure the altitude record and the Air Ministry state that high praise is due to the pilot for his sustained flying effort which has enabled the existing record to be broken by a substantial margin.

The aircraft, engine and special equipment are of British design and manufacture. The aircraft took off from the

aerodrome At Farn- borough, Hampshire, at 5.40 am. and landed there at 7.55 8.m. There was a clear sky and a prac- tical wind when the ascent, which took one hour and thirty-five minutes, began.
