New Treaty With Siam

It is said' that negotiations are going on between Japan and Stam for, the conclusion of a new Commercial Treaty. In November last, the Stamase Government notified the Japanese Government of its intention to abrogate the Japan-Siamese Commercial Treaty in force, which is thus to expire in November this year. his notice of abrogation was issued by the Siamese Government to the British, French and other Governments simultaneously.

The Japanese Government is sympathetically disposed towards Slam's desire to get rid of unequal treaties, which underlies her notice of abrogation, and ready to take the lead of the Powers similarly circumstanced in concluding a new Commercial Treaty with that country on an equal footing.

Mr. Mural, the new Minister toʻ`Slam, is leaving for his post shortly with the necessary Instructions in this regard, and it is ex- pected that on his arrival at his post, the negotiations for the con- clusion of a new Commercial Treaty will make good headway,...
