The returns show, a total of 1,154 successful exercises, carried out in the quarter ended December 31, 1938, and there were only eight failures to establish communica- tion. While this shows a reduc- tion on the total for the previous 3rd.-1st R. Norfolk R.: "443, 458, «quarter · (1,287), it alŝo shows 2690, 424.3 and 416.62, 231, 595; 3)- large Increase on the total for the | 258.5 points. corresponding quarter of 1935, | “B” · COMPETITION, when there were 786 successful and Infantry Abroad exercises and slx fallures to establish communication.
H.M.S. Kent, en route" from China to England, came first in order of merit with 90 success- ful exercises. H.MA. Resolution, Home Fleet, had 45; the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla. China, 43; and H.M.S. Stork. East Indies, and HMS. Fowey, Persian Gulf. had | 42 each, On the mercantile side: where a statement of comparative signal efficiency is not possible since opportunities are so varied, the British Tanker Company's vessels took part in 167 exercises: those of the British Indir Steam Navigation Company. 78; and P. &O. vessels, 74.

H.M.M. Dragon, Captain F. R. M. Johnson, which returned to the Nore from service on the America and" West Indies Station," has been brought into the North Lock. Chatham Dockyard.
HÄLLS. INDUS
The escort vessel Indus, which represented the Royal Indian Navy at the Review, and whose commanding officer, „Commander | Arthur Rattray, was received by the King on board the Royal yacht is to remain in England until after Navy Week (July 31 to August 7). This will provide an opportunity for the public to go on board an Indian ship of war. The Indus was présent at the Jubilee Review In 1935, which was held soon after her completion on the Tyne, but she had left Portsmouth for Bom bay before Navy Week of that year opened;
SIGNAL DEPARTMENT Commander N. B. Dease has joined the Signal Department, Admiralty, to succeed Commander A. K. Scott-Moncreif, who has been appointed executive officer of the cruiser Cornwall. Com- mander Deare Was Flag Lieu tenant to the late Admiral of the Fleet Sir Charles Madden in the Grand Fleet during the War, and afterwards in the Atlantic Fleet. He has also been squadron signal officer in the 1st and 3rd Battle Squadrons. He was promoted in 1929 after being senior lieutenant-
commander at the Signal School. and afterwards served in the Signal Department,- Admiralty. Since 1933 he has commanded the ...destroyers Thruster. at Portland, and Blanche. in the Mediter- ranean.

The minesweeper. Tedworth. which serves as tender to the Diving School at Portsmouth, and is commanded by Lieutenant-Com- mantier A. L Tidd, Superintendent of Diving, will leave Portsmouth
on June 11 for a cruise of some weeks to Greenock and Inverary.
