Major LA A. Alston, D.8.0. M.C. has been promoted lieuten ant-colonel to command the 1st Battalion. The Royal Welch Fust Hers in place of Leutenant-Colonel J. G. Bruxner-Randall, whose tenure expired on May 20.

The new O.C. joined the 3rd Bac-. talion (the Old Denbigh and Flint Militia) in 1809, and passed into the Regular service in 1912, Join ing the 1st Battalion at Portland. He was ап acting lieutenant- colonel in 1918. His War service' was in France, Italy, and Waziris- tan; and he was twice, wounded, was mentioned in dispatches, and was decorated. Captain E. B. Har- rison, M.C., obtains the majority.

Not An Earl Yet

Langon, June 1. The King knigned mr. Stanley Baldwin by creating him a Knight of the Garter at Buckingham Palace this morning and invested Mrs. Baldwin with the Order of Dame Grand Cross "of the British Empire.

The present designation of Mr. Baldwin is Bir Stanley Baldwin, KG. He will not be an Earl until Letters, Patent are issued.

Many old servants at Bucking- ham Palace were also honoured. including Inspector, William Hill, resident police inspector of the Household Police, who received the Royal Victorian Order.-

Mr. Roland Oliver, KC., said that the plaintiffs, for whom he appeared, Had both held positions Reuters Bulletin Service. in Austria equivalent to Cabinet rank in England. They had not sought to recover damages, but had bought the action to rehabili- tate their character in view of the grave view they took of the libel.
