RAILWAY
CONSTRUCTION OF
NEW LOCOMOTIVES
Ottaws.
As many as 3 new locomotives, 3,600 riew Treight cars and 30 passenger cars are to be construct- od this year by the Canadian Paci- fic Railway for the purpose of bringing up-to-date the company's rolling stock. The new locomo- tives will be partly streamlined and will be used in heavy passenger service and high speed, freight ser- vice. Most of these new locomu- tives will be lighter in weight than those used to-day and will be de- signed to be used on branch lines and thus release the heavier en- gines for fast freight work.
The passenger car coaches will be of the very latest design, alr conditioned, and equipped with thermostatic heat control. They will be 24 tens lighter in weight than those..generally. In use on Canadian railways to-day. The cost of this new equipment for the Canadian Pacific Railway is es- timated in the neighbourhood of $20,000,000.

Onka meanwhile has its own: EASTERN & AUSTRALIAN SAILINGS transport problem. Due to the munitions industry boom, much TANDA material is moving from Naniwa NANKIN station in Osaka to factory zones on the South bank of the Kizugawa river, along the Shirinashi river and Shirifunecho along the Kizu gawa. All freight, has to be ferried across the water and loaded again. the double bandling being both costly and time wasting. The Osaka Railway Bureau is now to build four ferries (27 metres long and seven metres wide) which will ship. wagens over without unloading.
