Mr. D. Black show his usual rare judgment when he brought Diana Bay, the favourite, first past the post in the Coronation Plate. It looked as though Cossack's Beauty (Mr. P. P. Botelho) would win easily but Diana Bay's Enishing burst brought the honours to the Dunbar stable. Gladiator (Mr. L. P. 'Ralph) was third and Honeymoon (Mr. Y. T. Fung last.

SIR W. WILLCOX ON CAR EXHAUST DANGERS

"Worse Than Coal Gas'

Sir William Willcox, adviser to the Home Office on toxic gases, who said that he was a member of the Committee of the British Medical Association appointed to Inquire into tests for drunkenness, gave evidence at London Sessions on the effect of motor-car exhaust gases,

Dr. P. J. Conwell, of Marden- crescent, West Croydon, charged. with being under the influence of drink when driving, pleaded that his condition was due to carbon: monoxide poisoning caused by a leaking exhaust.

The jury stopped the case and hel was acquitted.

"Exhaust fumes are very danger-.. ous and contain seven per cent. of carbon monoxide," said Sir Wil Ham. "They contain more than coal, gas. Carbon monoxide is 30 dan- gerous that if there were one part. in 2,000 of air it would be danger- ous to Hfe. You would become un- conscious.
