China achieved a splendid victory amidst scenes of intense excitement in the Coronation International Swimming Gala Saturday night, which was held in the presence of a large and appreciative audience in the Victoria Recreation Club

Amongst a very large' and 'representative gathering was His Excellency The Officer Administering The Government, Mr. N. L Smith C.MG., and his daughter, Miss Judith Smith, who distri- bated the prizes at the close of the proceedings.

BEATEN BY A YARD Some idea of the keeriness of competition which characterized this splendid swimming carnival may be gained by the fact that in the 300 Yards - Free-Style Relay China hitherto undefeated was beaten by a yard, Portugal being the winner.

At Caroline Hill yesterday morni- ing. Pui Ching University beat the Hong Kong Volunteers team by one run in a League baseball match. The game

exciting was very throughout the whole of the seven Innings and two home runs were registered. HL 8 of the Volun- teers annexed the first home run in their fourth Innings Stofen hit a home run for Put Chiing in their Afth innings.
