Dragon Display: Swimming

Gala On Programme

The local Coronation. Celebrations will be brought to a' conclu- slon to-day when the International swimming gala at the Victoria » Recreation Club will form the main item on a programme which includes racing at Happy Valley, - the Coronation dance at the Kow- loan Cricket Club and last, but by no means the least, the dragon display on the South China Athletic Association's ground at Caroline Hill. The last named is organised under the auspices of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and the proceeds will be devoted to charity. It is timed to start at 8 pm.

THRILLS FOR THOUSANDS OF SPECTATORS

'Not since the dawn of Scout and Guide Movements in the history of this Colony has there been a display so spectacular, inspiring and memorable as that -presented by members of the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides Associations in connection

with the Coronation celebrations.

The display was held at the Hong Kong Football Cluh Ground; Happy Valley, yesterday afternoon, under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency the Officer Administering the Gov ernment, Mr. N. L. Smith, CMG., who awarded the "Prines of Wales" Banner for 1936 to. First Hong Kong Sea Scout and that for 1936-37 to Third Hong Kong Girl Guides Company.

Over a thousand youths participated in this brilliant display which was a pageant of patrio- tism, a hive of industry, and a riot of colour.

Musical accompaniment was sup plied by the Band of the First Battalion The Royal Ulster Rifles, by kind permission of Lt. Col. R. M Rodwell and Officers, conducted by Bandriaster H. Alfred Hole AR.C. commenced M. The programme with a melodious selection of My- dleton's. "The Rose" and a march "Long Live the King" Hume,

Mr. A. Grad, Assistant Commis- sioner, was entirely responsible for the production of this display and its success was due in no small measure to his efforts,

The display commenced with a pageant of scouting, ilustrating the inception, growth and spread of the Boy Scout and Girl Guide Movements throughout the World.

Details furnished by the Kowloon-Canton Railway (British Section) of the Coronation "passenger" traffic from Chins shows an increase of 17.4 per cent, is compared with the Silver Jublice, 1935.

A total of 43,184 passengers were carried during Coronation Week as compared with 38,768 during the Silver Jubilee celebra- tions.

In the early hours of April 24, a man entered the Mongkok Po- lice Station and gave himself up saying that he had just murdered a woman by strangulation. He was In a state of agitation and the front of his coat and trousers were stained with blood.

The man was Fusliter Thomas Morgan, of "B" Company, Royal Welch Fusiliers, Shamshuipo Bar- racks.

As a result of his statement the soldier was taken into custody and was charged before Mr. E. Hims- worth with attempting to strangle a woman. Leung Lok, residing at No. 25, Cheung Lok Street.
