A TRIBUTE
BY
**LAST ·QUARTER'
Kucing careles 11 Hong Kong and Macas suffered an irreparable loss with the passing away of a true sportsman avi jollower of the King of Sports when the late Mr. S. 1. Liong breathed his last on Friday afternoon, April 23. The victim of an. unfurtunate accident, he leaves behind him the memories of a sporting, hadest and well-filled racing career. He maintained all the tradi" tions of a keen enthusiast and whether in victory or defeat adopted. that unassuming and friendly attitude, that endeared him to all his associates on or off the track.
To those four-footed friends of mankind whom he had learned to love and appreciate so well, the late Mr. S. Y. Liang ungrudging- ly gave all the credit for his many successes, To him it was the sport itself that mattered and whether on the training track, at an actual race meeting ur on, his daily visits to the stables, he derived the same full measure of enjoyment and carried out his share of the work cheerfully and willingly.
..fi
Stoically he endured the sufferings during those long drawn-aut days following the ncgillent and in his last race-with death-he gave: of his best; honestly, unflinchingly and fighting gallantly to the very last. No greater tribute could be accorded than that witnessed last Saturday when a large and distinguished gathering, fully representa- tive of the Colony's cosmopolitan community, attended the final rites and paid their respects to the memory of a never to be forgotten friend.
To his family and relatives the rating fraternity in general and many outside of it, will extend their deepest and heartfelt sympathy and hope that in their great sorrow they may find consolation in the knowledge that his memory and name will lung remain to be treasured. and honoured.
