HOCKEY PROTEST DISMISSAL

Rule States That Player Cannot

Represent Two Teams In Season

*

The dismissal by the Executive Council of the Mamak Hockey Tournament of the protest lodged by the Central British Association concerning the ineligibility of a player included in the Radio Sports Club team in 'the deciding championship match last Thursday gives rise to much comment. a few seasons ago when players in the Mamak Hockey Tournament were registered. This season they' are not registered.

Froin evidence adduced before the Council which met on Tuesday evening. It was admitted that the player in question, Channan Singh, has previously played for the Kow-

They fielded the player quite match and as the Kowloon Indians were a man short, he was asked to unintentionally. join in. Channan Singh, who was a member of the Radio Sports Club, Mr. Guest further explained, had played in a match for the Radio prior to this and in two games after it.

Allowing that explanation its

greatest latitude. It does not dis- pose of the protest in the strictest legal sense.

How does the present issue differ from this?

The match played last Thursday was won by the Radio by three goals to nll. They included in their team Channan Singh ap-

parently with the full knowledge that he had" played previously for another Club in the same Tourna- ment. But they did it uninten- tionally.

In this case intention has got nothing to do with the issue at Whether the player was stake. played intentionally of otherwise it

MACAO RACE MEETING

Draft Programme For May 9

May

The programme of the race meeting of the Macao Jockey Club to be held Areia Preta, Macao, on Sunday, 9th. May, at 2 p.m.. is as follows:-

stands to reason that such a step should never have been taken.

HE DID PLAY

The crux of the issue is the fact that Channan Singh did play for another team, and irrespective of registration, the Radio Sports Club, in my opinion (which is shared by many), should not have played this

man.

The decision of the Executive Council in dismissing the protest lodged by the Central British Asso- ciation is indeed amazing. What does the decision come to? It can mean this, and only this, that a player will be able to play for any two teams in a hockey tournament provided the team that fielded him did it without intention and with. assurance to that particular player that "there was nothing at stake."

It is of Interest to note that rule 29 of the Mamak Tournament states that a player may not play for more than one club in one sea- son without the permission of the Executive Committee and the clubs concerned.
