LONDON BROADCAST
on
LAST NIGHT
The first of a series of four talks
"Crowning
the
King" Was
broadcast from London last night and relayed through ZEW. The speaker was the Rev. Canon A. C. Dean, Chaplain to HM the King The speaker for the next three talks will be the King's Librarian.
The Rev. Canon Dean spoke in- terestingly of the ecclesiastical personages who will be taking part in the Coronation service on May 12 in Westminster Abbey. He said that the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Bishop of Durham, the Bishop of Barton Wells and the Dean of Westminster were the only four who had fixed rights, the other Bishops being specially ap- pointed for the service.
The Rev. Canon Dean said that in the event of the Archbishop of Canterbury being il on the day of the Coronation, people would naturally think that the annoint- ing and crowning ceremony would be performed by the Archbishop of York. But this was wrong as the ceremony, in that event, would be performed by some Bishop in the Province of Canterbury whom the Archbishop of Canterbury had commissioned.
