POLICE DESERVE WIN OVER ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS Sixth Championship Times Taken At Happy Valley

Scoreless First Half

(RY ROY MURRAY)

Yesterday's Senior League encounter between Police and Athletic at Caroline Hill excited little or no interest,, that end-of- much in evidence amongst the the-season staleness being very players. The ultimate result was of no material advantage, to either aide, Taylor's opportunism paving the way to a Police victory of 3 goals to 1.

Although Athletic enjoyed the major part of attack, their inside forwards proved feeble marksmen. They hemmed Police in their own territory at the offset, and per- fect crosses from Long Kwon Lum went abegging. Britton and Bone proved a stalwart obstacle in de- fence for Pollce, whose forwards also lacked penetrating power. A word of praise is due to Wong Sik Ping whose spectacular clearancou were one of the features of a lackadaisical first halt. The fact that neither goalkeeper was the opening seriously tested in period: speaks well for both de- fences and emphasises the lack of sharpshooting forwards on elther

side.

In

Ng Tak Wing netjed for Athletic in the second half but the point disallowed for alleged Was handball, On resuming Tom Kwon Kon drove the ball against Willerton, which rebounded into the empty net. Five minutes later Taylor repeated this performance with a ground shot which left Tom Kwon Kon helpless. This two goal lead acted as a toale to Police who pressed continuously, Athletic replled with a goal per- Chin Chi Fun. Taylor eventually scored again for Police who fully deserved their victory, which was 'directly due to the opportunism of Taylor to utilise his few oppor- tunities.
