How To Wear The New Jewellery
Diamonds will continue to be the fashion leader in stones, writes ย Home correspondent. Only platinum is used for to-day's set- ting, so there is nothing to detract from the white fire of the stone Itself. Each diamond is treated. individually.
Individuality is accorded to all gems of worth, as every precious stone, Af valuable and cast in a perfect design. is a costly affair. There is a desire to use important pieces such as head ornaments in. many ways.
Diamonds sparkie in the hair at night, but they also appear at many daytime functions. A slender halo bandeau can be trans- formed into two other ornaments: the upstanding centre cut atones, with surround of square. baguette diamonds, make a magnificent, double-clip Brooch; while the nar- Tower ends are transformed into lovely bracelets.
Many of the newest bracelets are slender and graceful, measuring half to one inch wide, though the more massive types are of in width. Brooches in diamonds and all stones of value continue to be on the large, important size, but of such light and exquisite design as never to look heavy.
Another clever
combination
I
have seen is one of the fashion- able clip ear-rings in diamonds, made up in a band caught into a tiny buckle. By day this formed the new short clip curling round the lobe of the ear; by night the buckle and chain "were released
and a chain of diamonds fell, to create the long,"graceful drop de- Blgu.
Clever,, treatment of this kind is practical and modern. The girl of to-day preters one or two pieces of jewel-work or quality to a mis- cellaneous hoard of old trinkets. Flexible pieces that can be altered easily to suit all kinds of toilettes and occasions full modern re- quirements.
London Jewellers are busy re- setting and utilising stores of value, turning long-discarded and hidden treasures into beautiful and useful creations.
Bracelets and ear-rings are ap- pearing in many of the important wedding-gift lists of to-day. Diamond bracelets can hold evin- ing watches successfully. Dainty linked chains of diamond are ou casionally interspersed with other
stones, but the most popular way. is to use all diamonds, for these stones in their great and newer. variety admit of no monotony.
B
A linked bracelet may have one or two cut stones in each link with surround of small baguetted diamonds, other stones may stand up from a close pavé foundation
small brilliants. It is
mar- vellous how many ways of treating diamonds there are,
The same applies to rings, Whatever stone is chosen. It s preferred alone.
The big single diamond is lovely, with its platinum shoulder setting and possibly brillants or smaller baguette stones to hold it. Big sapphires and emeralds are ar- ranged in a similar way, but 85- sisted sometimes by a background of baguette diamonds on each side of the shoulder that secures the stone. The single stone appears much more, valuable in a simple betting of this type, rather than In the old half-hoop style.

Fashion Flashes
Expert eyes see hints of future fashion developments to be shown in the approaching collec- tions of spring and summer mo dels in the clothes chosen by dis- season,,"criminating women now.
1 learnt at the Crown Jewellery that emeralds might be termed tne favourite and most valuable coloured stone of this though sapphires also rank among wedding-gifts. The modern girl often chooses sapphires for her
'engagement ring.
I saw some exceptional examples of single-stone rings in emeralds. very special specimen in this colour seemed to reflect wonder- ful tones.
A rich velvety surface would perhaps best convey its fatshed perfection.

I am also told that pearls are coming into thelr
again quickly. Either black or white pearls of great price will suffice for the stud ear-ring and single pearl ring.
It is interesting to see pearls be- ing worked once more into orna- ments, such as a diamond brooch and clasp. This old-world alliance is now beautifully presented in the modern way. Nothing could be more exquisite than a slender chain of diamonds holding a lovely. pearl pear-drop to weight it.
The rope of pearls is not so fashionable "to-day as the two or three rows of pearls worn as a necklace, with diamond clasp. The Queen's affection for pearls will assist in their return to fashion's favour. They are most effective tor ear-rings, and can be treated in a great variety of ways.

One of the latest beauty wrinkles here to add a drop of Eau de Cologne to the final rinse water, to give lingerie a pleasant, linger ing fragrance. Another new trick is to sprinkle a few drops of the same or of rose geraniumi perfume. Into the anger bowls, as a final, charming, touch for a formal din- пет.
Red earth, a warm orange-red shade of nail polish, that exactly matches the new bags and shoes of that colour is the latest fad. This polish is delightful with the Balmoral plaids so popular at pre- sent, and also is enchanting with navy blue, black, and York grey.
glamorous evening concelt in New York. The green eye shadow is smoothed on the upper lids first and then the silver shade lightly applied over the green. This com-. bination is particularly effective for blondes, or red-headed girls with creamy skin.
Ingenious young misses here have found that empty perfume bottles are an excellent substitate for sachets in the dresser drawer to scent lingerie and gloves It's a thrifty idea-worth knowingt
In accordance with the Paris decree that it's smart to be pretty this season, women here are wear ing soft, feminine styles and curis that frame their faces flatteringly, Delicate make-up that reminds one of the pink and white complexions, for which British women are fa mous has replaced darker, more exotic make-ups.

And you see transparent ma- terials everywhere-tulle tunics. long lace coats over satin slips and, for the afternoon, two-piece suits, cut like classic tailor-mades, of wool lace,
Another high spot is bead em- broidery: dressmakers are in scin- tillating mood these days.
Dresses are entirely covered with glittering embroidery, or maybe bands studded with sequins and cabochons will be applied to the revers or run right down the sleeve.

Two-colour ensembles for cock- talls and dinner are immensely chic at the moment. With a black skirt goes a dashing circus-rider bolero of vividly-coloured wool ma- terial, covered with gold or multi- coloured bead embroideries.
But far more elegant than any evening tailleur is the revived fas- hion for the "half-evening" dress..
A particularly smart one is long, very narrow, buttoned from neck to hem, with little suffs and a trim collar, its simplicity relieved by an enormous bunch of roses or peon- les.
