Referred to by General Chiang Kai-shek as "the foremost meritorious man in China," His Excellency the special Ambassador and Chief Delegate of the National" Government of China to the Coronation, Dr. H. H. Kung, arrived at Hong Kong yesterday accompanied by a distinguished entourage en 'route for Europe by the Lloyd Triestino liner "Victoris."
Owing to the indisposition of His Excellency the Governor, Sir Andrew Caldecott, the official welcome to the Colony was accorded the Ambassador and his colleagues by the Colonial Secré- tary, Hon. Mr. N. L. Smith, who placed at the Ambassador's disposal the Governor's launch and limousine.
An official spokesman for the delegation stated that whilst the purpose of Dr. Kung's leaving China was to attend the Coronation, yet its hoped that afterwards His Excellency and his coun- cillors would make a tour of investigation industry and commerce In the main centres of Europe.
H
Dr. Kung's leaving China, it' was explained, had been possible because the finances of the nation had been stabilized. During the Ambassador's absence finance matters of major impor- tance would be administered by General Chiang Kai-shek.
