Designers Decree Evening Frocks Go Light-Hearted

PRE-VIEW

Butterfes everywhere-in the hair pinned to the brims of sailor hats, in rows of three on the lapel of a tweed jacket, as a fastening tnstead of buttons, and in printed materials for blouses and day and evening dresses these are the "motir in the spring collecction of Madame Schiaparelli.

She create with a twinkle in her eye. Her fashions are gay, light- hearted arid designed to banish depression

Think how effective your even- ing gown would be with an em- broidery of brilliantly-coloured butterfly wings stretching from a point at the waist to the shoulders, and with it a long cost in deep pink large mesh net.

Waist-length jackets iri royai blue and light blue wide net trimmed with velvet were

worn over printed afternoon frocks.

- SAILOR HATS

Just below knee-length Informal evening gowns in lasiest geor- gette with large silver and check, over-designs were the only devia- tion fro the fashion trend of the last few years.

Skirts were fully flared. Every- thing this spring, or almost every- thing, will be flared-day dresses, coats, short jackets.

Hats were ridiculous and. 01 course, the more affective because of it. Bring out your old "gailors." touch them up a bit and trim the- up a bit and tri them in front with three or four little, wooden flags of many nations all in a bunch

What would you look like in a small basket of lacquered flowers worn at a jaunty angle over the Hight eye? Or in a very tall and very hollow fine black straw look- ing exactly like a coal-scuttle?

At least, you would have the satisfaction of knowing you were wearing fashion's

very Intest decree.

To be really smart in the button line you want wood and leather buttons in the shape of door knockers-a bull's head compléte with brass ring or umbrellas, "

You cannot use too many zip fastenings. One stretched from the small, of the back to the hem of an evening gown.

SQUARE NECKS

Many designers are showing very decollée evning frocks. You will have to used to being daring. It is for a good cause, anyway. Ulick Philippe's evening KOWIS had square princess petticoat tops with shouder straps, draped cross- over. Empire bodices and full skirts.

There's no need to remove an apron any more hurriedly when someone rings the front door bell of an afternoon.

The Hobble Again

Eyes are focussed on skirt lines at dress shows this apring. Many of them do the most sur- prising things,

The hobble skirt made a re- appearance in a model for in- formal evening or 'garden Darty wear. It was cut ankle length, and had DO sut Dr pleat to modify Its extreme narrowness. Over it Was worn a blue and white broderie anglaise tunic, with encrusted revers of the plain material,

Ulick Philippe zets the vogue for an afternoon frock in blue and white ciré, silk with a separate apron front crisply pleated, and hanging from the waist line.
