Satisfactory Year Reported
surance
The sixty-eighth ordinary meet- ing of the Hong Kong Fire In- Company Limited was neld yesterday in the board room of the General Managers, Messrs. Jardine, Matheson and Company Ltd. Hon. Mr. J. J. Paterson pre- sided and reported a satisfactory
year.
Addressing the meeting the Chairman said:----
The result
Company's of the working for the year 1935, which we now present to you, has again been satisfactory the Account hay- ing run off with a credit balance- of $704,638.53. the fourth best in our history. Premium showed a definite appreciation on 1934, this being due to an increase in income from sterling, taken at a some- exchange, against what lower which however had to be set of a fall in revenue from Hong Kong and China sources. This last un- satisfactory feature, which I men- tloned in my speech last year, has continued to cause us concern; we trust it pas now been checked hut with conditions as they are, we cannot look for any material im- provement in the near future.
A comparison of ratios as be- tween the year under review and {ts immediate predecessor is as follows: Losses 47,58 per cen as against 49.38 per cent. Charges 10.08 per cent. and 40.44 per cent. leaving a balance of 12.38 per cent as compared with 10.18 per cent: The rate of exchange taken for account 1935 is 1/2 as against 1/38 for 1934, we are hopeful that future differences may be less and a greater" measure of re- lativity between accounts thus be possible.
11
EARLY RECOVERY
ANTICIPATED
even
The figure of interest is down by some $0,500 on that for 1934; we anticipate an early recovery, how- ever, and that for 1938 it will pass the $480,000 mark.
The balance at credit of work- ing account 1936 is $885,835.29 an increase of over $112,000 on that for the year previous at the same period, I might also mention that It is nearly a lakh better than any previous CAITY forward. after twelve months working. These are early days wherein to speculate, as to the final result of this account anould be satisfactory to Share- but, granted normal conditions, it
holders.
