V.D.M.A. ANNUAL
MEETING
Work For Improvement
Of Rural Life
**There is one matter in particular for which. I want to thank the VDMA. and that is for the help it has given in the estab Hishment of our Diocesan Eural Service Committee," said Bishop R. O. Hall when he presided at the Victoria Diocesan and Mis- sionary Association annual meeting yesterday at the Bible Depot.. There were also present the Rev. J. R. Higgs, Vice-President, Mr. W. A. Stewart, Hon. Treasures, and Dr. K. H. Ustiny, Hon. Secretary.
The speaker recalled the sigpl- Acant meeting of the Association held in Canton last week at which the new Director of the Kwang- tung Provincial Rural Reconstruć-4 tion Commission asked the leaders of the various churches for their help In making effective the Government's ruzni reconstruction plan. "You can imagine how glad I was that when the Government asked our help and we were able to give it," continued the chair- man, "but we should not have been ready or able to give such help had It not been for the generosity of the 'V.D.M.A.":
The Bishop pointed out the fact that many farmers of Kwangtung and probably in the New Terrl- tortes, are faced at this time with
the necessity of borrowing money
to pay for their own food, manure, etc., and their disability to pay back these loans when they har- vest their first crop in July. He reminded that the task of the Association was to help those be- low the savings line to avail them- selves of the credit being made to having regard changing conditions of sea-borne ment and so lift them from below the available by the Canton Govern- trade in these waters, and part-the Une to above it.
