Western Pact

London, March 13. The German Ambassador in London called this morning on the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Anthony Eden, and handed him the reply of the German Govern- ment to the British Government's memorandum of November 18, on the proposals for a Western Pact. Another copy of the German re- ply was received at the Foreign; Office this morning from Berlin where it was handed yesterday to the British Ambassador, Sir, Eric Phipps, and the document, which | is of considerable length, is un- dergoing careful .and detailed examination. Mr. Eden's discut- sion this morning with Herr Von Ribbentrop was of a general character and it is probable that they will have a further conver- sation next week.

DOUBLE PROGRAMME

AT MAJESTIC

Adventure and thrills galore are on tap for action picture fans this week at the Majestic Theatre, where "Sixteen Fathoms Deep," the entertaining Monogram sponge- fishing picture is now showing.

"Sixteen Fathoms Deep" is film- ed against a colourful background, choosing the interesting and Uttle known American sponge fishing industry as the locale for its grip- ping plot,

The story concerns the adven- tures of a young sponge fisherman who is forced to go into debt to purchase a boat. A clever twist to the story involving the dramatic abilities of pretty Saily O'Neil, firi- ally clears up the dificulties, but not before the young diver, played by Creighton Chaney, son of the late Lon Chaney, narrowly escapes a horrible death at the depth of 18 fathoms, fights a thrilling hand to hand battle with a piratical crew, and rescues one of his divers from the bottom of the sea.

"SAVAGE GOLD”

If you crave weird thrills and savage action in your film enter- falnment, you can find plenty of both in "Savage Gold," the jungle Alm featuring the dreaded head hunters of Brazil, now showing at the Majestic Theatre.

Objection is raised to the French guarantee to Britain and also the pucts of mutual assistance..
