The first request was that sull- makers on going to pension should be eligible to join the Royal Marine Police: and there is no objection to this. In response to a request for an increase in the scale of for- elgn service leave, the Board bave decided to increase this from seven to 11 days for each completed period of six months' service. Fur- eign service leave for periods lesa than six months will be reckoned at two days Instead of one for each complete month's service: A third concession relates to the muster- ing of kit by leading rates; the decision is that "the pride of ap- pearance shown by leading rates generally justifies the cancellation or the orders requiring leading rates to.. muster their kit.”
CONTINUOUS SERVICE
It was asked on behalf of spe- cial service ratings (those who en- ter for seven years in the Fleet and Ave in the Reserve) that they should be allowed to transfer to continuous service (12 years, with the prospect of re-engagement to complete time for pension) at an. earlier dute than at present. Con- cessions on the lines asked for have been approved to permit able seamen, signalmen, and tele- graphists to transfer as soon as they obtain the "able" rate. A further request was that all pen- sioners who have reengaged for three, four, or five years should be paid the is.' day bonus introduced last year, whether they had been out of the service for under or over two years. This has been ap- proved.
A request to abolish the search- Ing of ratings below leading sea- men when returning on board from liberty cannot be granted on dis- ciplinary grounds, but the regula- tions are to be amended to indicate that leading rates are exempt from personal search unless the officer of the watch, executive officer, or captain shall order otherwise for & special reason in aus particular case. In response to a request that leading stokers who have passed for stoker petty officer and who fall in the eyesight test may volunteer to undergo the course
