GERMANY AND SWISS
NEUTRALITY
Federal President's
Explanation
A Spontaneous Statement
Berne, March 10.
The German Chancellor's recent declaration that Germany would respect Swiss neutrality, and the comments which this aroused in the German press, were the subject of a lengthy in- terpellation in the Swiss Federal Council.
In answer to the question whether conditions of any kind were attached to this declaration from Berlin, the Swiss Federal President, Dr. Guiseppe Motta stated that the German Chan- cellor had made the statement spontaneously"in oqurse of a con- versation with the Federal Councillor Schultheiss, and that it was entirely voluntary in nature and has given rise to favourable comments throughout the Reich and the whole world.
Dr. Motto continued that the re-
ports stating that German politl-
clana had demanded reciprocal BIG LOAN BILL
promises from Switzerland were untrue, Councillor Schultheiss would never have entered into any such negotiations and it would be insulting to the German Chancellor
