For the passession of a wireless receiving set without licence, Stan- ley Lec, of No. 97, Hill Road, second floor, was summoned before Mr. W. Schofield at the Central Magistracy yesterday and WIJ fined $10.

Appearing on behalf of defen- dant, Mr. M. A. da Silva said that the set was given to defendant as a-present" for the Chinese New Year by a friend. He stated that it was quite impossible to obtain a Ucence during the New Year holi- days, but defendant had made the earliest rush to get one on February 18, two days after he received the gift,

Inspector James Key said that on information received, he vist- ed defendant's premises, but he was detained for a short time at the door, and during this period of detain the occupants of the house took the opportunity to disconnect the wire, and remove the receiver. The whole procedure was seen by witness through the reflection on the mirror which was facing the front door. ·

Witness stated that though 'de- fendant's friend was a Licence holder, the licence could not be transferred with the set as defen- dant pleaded, and remarked that the removal of the set during his visit proved that defendant must have known that they were lable to be prosecuted..

Defendant had a previous con- viction for the possession of heroin pills.

For the passession of a quantity of prepared oplum and keeping an oplum divan at No. 22, Tul Wo Street, Kwong Kal, 36, unemploy ed was fined $3 or five days, and $75 or seven weeks' imprisonment on the two charges respectively when he appeared before Mr. W. Schofield at the Central Magis- tracy yesterday.".
