BEST DISPLAY FOR PAST FEW YEARS

One of the best seen in the past few years, the Hong Kong Horticultural Society annual show of flowers and vegetables held at Volunteer Headquarters yesterday afternoon was a brilliant success. Under mashed covering the grounds were transformed into lines of multi-coloured blooms and vegetables the whole pre- senting a marvellous spectacle which will long be remembered by the many visitors.

His Excellency the Governor, Sir Andrew Caldecott, was among those who attended, and Lady Caldecott, herself a keen horticulturist, distributed the prizes. Others present included Sir Robert Ho Tang, Hon. Sir Shouson Chow, Sir William Hornell, Sir Alfred Des Voeux, Hon. Mr. N. L. Smith, Hon. Mr. J. J. Pater- son. Hon Mr. and Mrs. Leo D'Almada, Hon. In the cut flower section, the dahllas of the Hon Mr. N. L. Smith attracted much attention while the sweetpeas displayed by Mrs. F. C. Hall. President of the Society, was extraordinary, thele long stalks and full blooms in a variation of colours being features of the display.

Lady Caldecott was the. recipient of a beautiful vase of roses pre- sented by little Miss Neva Green. daughter of Mr. H. Green, Superin tendent of the Botanical and Forestry Department.

Hughes. and the brilliant prize-winning pot of marguerite of Mrs. F. C. Hall, all called for attention and, Judging from the sheer delight gave spectators just viewing them, It must have been indeed a di- cult task for the judges to make their awards.

BANKSIAN MEDAL The Banksian Medal of the Royal Horticultural Society Was awarded to Mrs. J. Scott Harston who had a magnificent display of three pots of cineraria.

The Clover Flower Shop's da play was attractive and included carnations grown from seeds sown In September. 1836.

The whole display is brilliant and will be continued this after noon. A visit is highly recom- mended.

The Marine Band of H.M.S. Ber- wick was in attendance during the afternoon and rendered pleasing selections

At the conclusion of the' show, Lady

Caldecott presented the prizes and in calling upon her Ladyship Mrg. F. C. Hall. President of the Scclety, said:-

The weather this year has treat- ed our gardens' more kindly than is quite qual just before the date of the Flower Show, and fog and mildew, have not beea much m evidence on the Peak.

The beauty of this Annual Flow- er Show always fills me with won- der. and every year the range of beautiful exhibits increases, owing to the interest and experimental | work of just a few people..
