EXPORT POLICY
Concentration On
Chinese Market
Japanese cotton interests arc now called on to effect a drastic change in their export trade policy. In the face of the in- creasing restrictions in principal markets, they are unable to make any further headway there, while little hope can be pinned in the exploitation of new markets. The only outlet for their Increasing output is the Chinese market.
In this sense, cotton traders welcomes the positive economic policy towards China, which the Hayashi Cabinet promises the nation to adopt in future.
Japanese cotton goods are sub- jected in many countries to severs restrictive measures such as high Important duties, import quotas and barter claims. But the re- cent tendency is the adoption of a quota system rather than tariff measures. According to investi gations by the Men-Ko-Ren, an organ of cotton weavers and finishers, 40 countries out of the 126 total have quetas" against. Japanese cotton goods, the total quantity involved being 1,100,000,- 000 square yards or 40 per cent. of Japan's aggregate annual ex-
ports.
Especially noteworthy is the fact that such quotas exist in large countries. The recent cases are Australia and the United States Where Japan is now obliged to restrict her shipments to only 51.250,000 and 180,000 square yards, respectively. The other principal countries are:-

Get rid of Disfiguring
Blemishes
this
Easy Way
Nothing
can be more distract- ing to a woman than ugly pimples, burning irritations or patches of blackheads or en larged pores on the face or neck. Some resort to heavy powdering in an effort to hide them; whlist others cause the skin
to
become muddy. looking, coarse and blemished by using the wrong treatment..
To make your skin clear and healthy, to cleanse clogged facial pores, remove blackheads and pimples and to make your complexion clearer
and smoother, use Cuticură.
Cleanse the skin with Cuti- cura Soap twice a day. Its luxuriant and mildly antiseptic lather is soothing and softering; washes away" pore-deep dirt which causes blackheads, en- larged pores and ugly com- plexion defects.
To rid the skin of pimples, skin outbreaks, rashes or irrita tions use Cuticura Ointment direct on the affected part before washing with the scap. Its anti- septic action kills germs, soothes and heals and quickly clears the skin.

Essen, Feb. 22). In the month of January, the Ruhr coal industry had taken on
means of encouraging
trade, export Tokyo Department of Commerce and Industry has been planning to exploft small markets. pointed out, however, that Japan cannot expect much increase her exports.
Drop In China Trado China is the only market left to Japan. In 1928 Japan exported 532.000.000 square yards to China. However, owing to the intensifica- tion of the boycott movement and for similar reasons. business has dropped sharply since. Last year's shipments were only 38.575.- 000 square yards, and even if those shipped to China via third coun tries are taken into consideration. the total will be only 70,000,000 or 80,000,000 square yards.
Taking advantage of the new Government's campaign towards the adjustment of economic re- lations with the Chinese Govern. ment, therefore, many traders are to make redoubled efforts towards the recovery of their lost market on the Chiness Continent.
