IN GLORIOUS WEATHER THE THIRD DAY OF THE ANNUAL RACE MEETING OPENED

ALTHOUGH IT WAS ON THE WARM SIDE. THE TEACK WAS IN FINE CONDITION AND, AS A RESULT, SOME EXCELLENT SPORT WAS SERVED UP TO THE VERY LARGE NUMBER OF RACE FANS WHO ATTENDED THE MEETING.

ROSEMARY, ME. EU TONG SEN'S MUCH-FANĊIED' CANDIDATE FOR THE DERBY, BUT "WHICH FAILED EVEN TO PLACE ON MONDAY, WAS AGAIN BEATEN YESTERDAY WHEN IT WENT OUT IN THE AMERICAN · CUP WHICH, APPROPRIATELY ENOUGH, WAS WON BY THE MRS. LAMBERT DUNBAR'S RED FEATHER WITH MR. LEO FROST ON THE SADDLE. ROOTY HILL DERBY WAS WON BY GYPSY LOVE (MR. D. S. LÌ).

The most successful Jockey of the day was again Mr. L. G. Frost who rode four winners la addition to securing a second and a third. Dividends were on the small side until the last race of the day when Mr. H. J. Hearne brought Boolat Bay in to pay his backers the handsome re- turri of $158.90 for their $5 bel.

Philanderer Mr: Tang-Man-wa),

As

THE ROOTY-HILL DERBY Mr. D. 8 L rode a magnificent ruce on Gypsy Love to win the Rooty-Hill Derby in the record time of 2.43.5, after having kept. this mount back till the last 200 yards. Courting Eve (Mr. V. v. Needa), the favourite ran third to Lancashire Chips (Mr. H. C. Pih) while Artec (Mr. D. Black), after an extremely promising run, had to be content with fourth place.

The race was a very fast one. with Lancashirà Chips setting the pace. Aztec was held back until the Black Rock when it was given Its head but the animal had been pulling so hard that it was spent at the Distance Post and could not respond to its jockey's urging.

THE PEKING HANDICAP The Peking Handicap attracted only three starters and resulted in a win for Cossack's Beauty (Mr. T L Wong) with Gladiator (Mr. V V. Nezda) and Mistake Bay (Mr. H. J. Hearne) following order named.

in the

Gladiator set the pace and was going beautifully, with, however. Cossack's Beauty's éver on "ber heels. Mistake Bay was never in the race and for a time the finish promised to be a close orie but the Lan candidate had a better finish and finally past the post with three lengths to spare.

THE AMERICAN CUP

Thunder Bay (Mr. L. G. Frost) The American Cup was, quite apfulalled expectations by winning propriately, won by Mrs. L Dun- bar's Red Feather (Mr. L. G. Frost) who beat the favourite, Rosemary (Mr. E C. Leighton) who finished one length behind, while King's Highway, with Mr. F. Marshall on the saddle, was the only other Atarter in the race,

The full results of the day, to- gether with the figures for the cash sweeps, are given below:-

There was a very pleasant cere- mony at the conclusion of the Governor's Cup when His cellency the Governor, Sir Andrew Caldecott, K.C.M.O., C.B.E., pre-Wadebridge MrF. Marshall) and seated Dr. S. N. Chau, owner of Rote Evelyn (Mr. E C. Leighton) took the lend, followed by Tiny Coronation Day, with the Cup.

Star Mr. D. S. L) and Wild Cat (Mr. T. L. Wong) while Seventeeth of September (Mr. V. V. Needa) ran promisingly. At the Village Bend Wild Cat went to the lead, with Rose Evelyn following closely behind and Tiny Star in the third position. Mr. Needs made a great effort to catch up on the Star ca 13- didate but found the distance too much and had, therefore, to be content with fourth place.

THE SUBSCRIPTION GRIFFINS

THE KALGAN PLATE The track was in fine condition when the first race was run and Mariposa (Mr. N. Deltz) was made the favourite while Yum Sing (Mr. D. Black) also commanded 'a good following.

Tze Tin (Mr. D. 8. LI went into the lead, followed by Spring Beauty (Mr. S. C. Llang) and Yum Sing and when the half-mile post was reached

Prospero and Tse Tin fought out in the most exciting manner. only a short head separating the first and second ponies and the same distance between the second and third,

Rosemary was striding beauti- fully till the Black Rock when Red Feather passed him and once it went into the lead there was no holding him and though Rosemary challenged strongly, the advantage gained by Mr. Frost stood him in good stead.

THE GOVERNOR'S CUP CHALLENGE CUP Pagan Love (Mr. Marshall), the

THE GYMKHANA STAKES It was left to Mr. H. J. Hearne,

THE EXCHANGE PLATE A thrilling race was provided in the Exchange Plate when King's Warden (Mr. F. Marshall) beat the hot favourite, Bear Claw (Mr. L. G. Frost) by two lengths after the latter had led by about half- a-length for three quarters of the race. Honeymoon Eve (Mr. V. V. Needa) was third and Kincora (Mr. R."H. Charles), the only other entry, did not complete the distance, giving up the ghost after passing the stands for the first time.

Mr. Marshall rode a well-judged race to turn the tables.on Mrs. L. candidate Dunbar's redoubtable and Mrs. T. E. Pearce was given a great ovation when she led the winner.in.

This was a sprint race, over five furlongs, and Mr. Frost sent his

mount into the lead which he kept till the end. He had Dick Turpin and Boronia Belle in close atten-
