The Gerler Service was last held In 1914. It was reviewed by King George V in 1911 after an interval of 106 years and was held each year until the War. King George V had made arrangements for the service to be held in 1935. but 16 had to be cancelled when, after the strain of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, his Majesty found it necessary to remain at Bandring- ham instead of going to Windsor as he had intended for Ascot Week. It is the custom on the occasion of this service for the Knights to as- semble in the Waterloo Chamber and then, headed by the King and Queen, to proceed down the Lower Ward to the chapel, the whole of the route being lined by troops.
