Chief Justice Postpones Sentence

A fatal, shooting affray in the Now Territories on a stormy night on January 9, last when a steersman lost his life aboard a transport junk, was narrated by Mr. E. H. Willams, Assistant Attorney General at the Criminal Sessions yesterday afternoon when Cheng Sik Keo appeared before the Chief Justice, Sir Atholl MacGregor, charged with the manslaughter of Cheng F King at Yuen Long Wan, Deep Bay, Ping Shan district..

The following jury was empanelled:-Messrs. G. Paster (Fore- - man). H.. R. de Pinna. Hew Ah Lan, L. E. Lammert, Chan'Wan Gork, A. K. Ismail and Fang Shul Ming.

The accused was not legally represented and pleaded not guilty.

Mr. Williams, opening the Crown, case, said that the scene of the incident was a very isolated place and there was only a shop, owned by the accused's master. and a few matst.eds occupied by farmers nearby. The shop dealt in sugar and salt and stood in a compound surrounded by a fence.

Appearing before Mr. J. Barrow at the Taipo Court yesterday, morning, a marr.ed woman, Luni Lin, alias Lum Yuk, aged 27, was charged with the possession of 15 taels' of raw opium, and was fined $450.

The facts of the case were that Оп Chinese New Year's Eve, Chinese detective sergeant Chan Pul received information' at the Yaumat! Station that a female passenger on the 7.55 p.m. truin to Shum Chun had in her posses- slon a quantity of opium. Attempted To Resist Arrest

Cheng Chik, the accused's maa- Ler. in the witness stand, sald that there had been several robberies at the place but not since he had barbed wire fending put round the compound at the end of last year.

FEUDAL LIFE

In summing up. his Lordship said that there was no doubt that the accused did kill the man. The accused appeared to live a sort of feudal life in a castle heavily sur- rounded by barbed wire fencing. The jury considered their verdict by ballot but his Lordship directed that that was no verdict. The jury then retired and returned at 5 p.m. a unanimous verdict of gulity,
