Prospects For Boys In Merchant Service
"Shipbuilding is showing some activity, and more laid-up ships are coming back into commission. It is expected that this improve- ment will be maintained during the next few years, and continuous employment and reasonable pro- motion should be obtainable by those cadets who prove themselves competent and have obtained good reports during their app #nice- ship."
These words of encouragement appear in a pamphlet upon choice of the Merchant Navy as a career, lasued by the Ministry of Labour. It is one of a series on the choice.
of careers compiled by arrange
ment between the Incorporated Association of Head Masters of
Public Secondary Schools and the
Ministry of Labour. It sets out
the concisely
two methods by which a boy can enter the Mer- chant Navy as a deck officer.
