THE INFLUENCE OF

W AIR POWER

Readaptability To The Air Age

(RY AIR COMMODORE L. E. O. CHARLTON)

This article will be a disquisition on some aspects of the era ot tight not at first apparent even to the enthusiastically air-minded in- dividual. Many there are who sun up flying in terms of war, and a few also who apply the invention to the commerce of peace, while too large a number altogether cannot bend their minds to the realization that the aeroplane has altered anything at all of serious con- sequence to humanity. The real truth is that nothing has happen- ed since the world was boru equivalent to the conquest of the air and that only the lag of effect following on cause, an attribute of slow-minded mankind, has delay ed, and is still delaying, the shift- ́ing and reshuffling of national policies hitherto based on the ability to crawl about only on the surface of the globe.
