NO CHANGE IN PASSPORTS

British System Best

Proposed changes in British passports have recently been con- sidered by the Passport Office, Sta- tionery Office and Home Office. It Is understood, however, that › the present form is likely to remain unaltered.

Although passport forgerles and alterations in general have Incress- ed in Europe since the outbreak of war in Spain, the percentage of Illegal alteration to British pass- ports has decreased during the last few years.

American and Canadian pass ports are printed by special ma. chines in typescript which is dif- Acult to alter, After considering the advisability of printing Bri-. tish passports in the same way, the Passport Office hus decided that the present British system is equal- ly good.

An official at the Passport Of- fce told a representative of the Holhow.. "Daily Telegraph" that the British Passport system was probably the most efficient in the world, and the one least tampered with.

"Any alteration tó a British pase- port is really absurdly obvious." he said. "I wish that British wo- men were as conscious of this fact as are the crooks and undesirables who know the danger of being caught with forged papers, and al- most invariably carry scrupulously correct passports.
