Increase In Wholesale Prices
The Imports and Exports Department reports that" according to an index constructed at the Statistical Office, Wholesale prices in the Colony of Hong Kong during the year 1936 recorded in- creases of 32.3 per cent, as compared with 1935, 12.7 per cent. as compared with 1934, and 3.1 per cent, as compared with the basc period of 1922.. There were decreases of 0.4 per cent, and 15.8 per cent, as compared with the years 1933 and 1932 respec- tively.
Calculated by main groups of commodities the index number of Foodstuffs increased by 32.7 per cent, as compared with 1995, 20.1 per cent as compared with 1834, and 13.3 per cent, as com- pared with the base period of 1922. Textiles increased by 34.0 per cent, as compared with 1935, 15.7 per cent. as compared with 1934, and decreased by 0.6 per cent, as compared with 1922. Metals and Minerals Increased by 34,3 per cent, as compared with 1939, 10.1 per cent, as compared with 1934, and 7.2 per cent, as compared with 1922. Miscellaneous Articles increased by 27.9 per cent. as compared with 1935, 45 per cent, as compared with 1934, and decreased by 7.5 per cent. as compared with 1922.
