There are still good bargains to be.picked up at the sale that com-

Howard Hodge, they lay in serried rows along three sides of a large room In the May Fair Hotel, writes
a Home correspondent.
The "layout" was American--- that is the way they stage their hat shows. One had an aquarium in the middle of it, because hat colourings for the spring and sum- mer of 1937, have been inspired by 6sh.
Here are some of them: Conch
Shell (pink). Amberjack (barnt belge), Angel Fish Blue (pastel blue), Red Snapper (bright red), Pompano (brown), Sallfish blue (light navy). Black Mollie (shiny black):
After I had "done the round,” I kept close to the aquarium to keep the colours in my mind, and watched the Dorchester Girls try on some of the hats,
"SHADOW-BRIM" HATS
They showed me hats with soft shadow-brims and hats with large
graceful bruns, close, flippant
`turbans and trim sallors.
Two new lines are the "bogota beret, which is large and stiffish, with a forward brim; and a hat with a schoolgirl-plus-Nippy bow at the back.
Crowns have been flattened, although in some Instances they are held high enough to suggest the Tyrol,

New Year parties have how popular is the fashion of wearing evening blouses and tunics with skirts of different or similar materials. Lace and tulle are used
for these tunies and blouses; A
tunle is made in black tulle with fine ciré ribbon gathered and curled into an all-over, pattern to trim it. The neckline is high, the sleeves are elbow length. A biz butterfly bow, trimmed' with the ciré ribbon in the same way, in
set at the neck. A jewelled clip

may hold the bow in place. other black tulle blouse is cut with
tight sleeves to the elbow, from which point there is a flare, full and wide. The blouse is tucked in- to the waist at the front and the back, and at the sides it fares in- to hip panters. The tulle used for this blouse is spotted with chenille. Over satin skirts these
blouses look charming...
A pale blue velvet dinner dress that heralds the return of the shorter skirt by means of a slit at the front of the skirt, is included in the Wardrobe of Simone Simon, vivacious French actress. Front draping that extends to the moderately low neck accents the use of the slit skirt, and colour contrast is found in the crushed belt of fuschia velvet.
'ORCHID CLIP”
As a general rule Maureen O'Sullivan is not fond of Jewellery, but the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer: ac- tress has an exception to this rule in the form of a newly acquired "orchid clip..
The small replica of the flower Is done in diamonds and sapphires. The tubular centre is fastened in place by means of a small, plati num spring that causes it to move realistically with the motion of the body.

MANY NEW IDEAS
There are many new ideas in jewellery. Cartler is combining gold with black enamel. His gold- and black bracelets in these mediums are set with topaz The topaz and the aquamarine are the two fashionable secondary pre- cious stones of the moment. A safety pin to thrust into a "short scarf is in gold with a Uttle bunch of holly berries, from which the leaves have been stripped, on the middle or end of the pin. The berries are in gold. The same de- coration is seen on bracelets; a Mttle bunch of golden berries makes a becoming ear clip. The tashion of diamonds continues for necklaces, bracelets, clips, earrings, rings.
OLD HINDU JEWELLERY
Old Hindu Jewellery is being worn without any alteration ex- cept the lightening of the settings. There are chiselled gold pendants set with rubies, sapphires, and intersected with dashes of enamel. These are hung on twisted ropes of ነነ rubles treated as glass beads, Some of the Indian earrings are exquisite. A pair is made of a wreath of emeralds from which hang great pear-shaped pearls, four from each ring. Modern Jewellery shows the same idea of treating precious stories as beads.
