CONTROL OF MUNITIONS OF

WAR TO SPAIN

SUPERVISION OF LAND AND SEA FRONTIERS

Volunteers And Military

Personnel To Be Included

London, January 12.

The experts' report on the scheme of supervision of the land and sea frontlers of Spain by means of which the consent of both parties to the conflict for control of munitions of war destined for Spain could be exercised was under examination this morning by the Chairman's sub-committee of the International Committee for en. forcement of the non-intervention agreement.

Additional interest attaches to the proceedings of the Commit- tee in view of the week-end developments and the replies to the British Government's representations which have been made in Paris," Berlin, Rome, Lisbon and Moscow which are awaited.

The British Government has ex- pressed the view that the detailed scheme might be modified to cover the arrival in Spain both land and. sea of volunteers and military per- sonnel as well as war material. Such extension, It was added, might indeed render the scheme more acceptable to the two parties In Spain and the Governmenta addressed were also informed that

the British Government would be glad to consider any detailed pro- posals for control of other forms of indirect intervention and would be ready for early discussion by the committee of any such proposals submitted to it

NEW HOPE IN CHINA

Sir Austen Pays Tribute

London, Jan. 11. Friends of China have rejoiced, with the Chinese people, that the solution of the Slanfu events in- creased the prestige of Marshal Chiang Kai-shek and the entire Government, declared MT qua Tai-chi, speaking at a dinner of the China Society in London to- night.

He said that China was finding great, permanent and beneficial changes could be achieved quickly and there was new hope and con- Adence throughout the country that she was learning to be roll- tically national and not merely racial.

Sino-British affairs had their roots intertwined in the Far East, whether in taste of culture or world peace. declared Sir Austen' Chamberlain, replying. There was no such undeveloped market in the world- to-day as China, strong and united and at peace with her developed by neighbours, ・ and her own Government, can afford to all the world.

"We have no ambition and no desire to add another foot of ter- ritory to those which already re- cognise the sovereignty of our King. We have no territorial am- bitions; no desire to over-ride the Government of China. In China, more than anywhere else, we; a nation of shop-keepers, want to" be able to trade. And we see that your unity, integrity, strength and authority of your Government, are things as necessary for our pur- pose as they are for yours," Bir- Austen said.

He would not have it thought, he added, that Anglo-Chinese re- lations were purely material and that what Britain hoped for from China was nothing more than an increase in trade.
