SIEVERS FINE BOWLING FORM
Melbourne, January 2. - The second day's play in the Third Test match was featured by two declarations--fless when Don Bradman į applied the closure with the Australian total at 200 for 9, and then, after England had collapsed unaccountably, Gubby Allen de- clared with the total at 76 for B.
At the close of play Australia had scored 3 for 1 and are thus 127 runs in the lead with nine wickets in hand. ́ ́Austra- lia had scored 181 runs for 6 at the close of play on the first day and this morning a surprisingly large crowd of 50,000 peo- ple were at the ground in time to see the commencement which, however, was delayed until 2 p.m. owing to the fact that a sharp shower of rain fell early on and rendered the wicket unplayable until then.

McCabe (83) and Oldfield (25) resumed the Australian innings at 181 for 6, but only two runs had been added before Mc Cate, mistiming a sharp. rising ball from Voce, was caught by Worthington in the gully. 183-7-8. J. McCabe, c. Worthington, b 63...
'McCabe had batted for 144 min- utes and hit six boundaries.
BRADMAN'S STRATEGY OldЛeld and O'Reilly added seven runs before the latter was taken in the slips off Hammond. Ward was stumped off the same bowler.
With only Fleetwood Smith left to bat, Bradman decided to de- clare at this total, 200. scored in 283 minutes, and give the Eng- llshmen a try-out on what was becoming a very tricky wicket.
Oldfield, undefeated with 27 to nis credit, batted 81 minutes and nit three boundaries.
EARLY DISASTER Worthington, who-replaced Fagg in the England team, was sent out with Barnett to open the English innings on a wicket which was difficult, becoming increasingly. and the huge crowd were given an early thrill when McCabe, with his third ball, got. Worthington caught at silly point by Bradman without a run on the board.
A collapse was threatened when Barnett skled a ball from Sievers caught by Darling at and was square leg with only 14 runs on the board. Hammond and Ley land, however, remained together antil the tea interval, which was taken with the score at: 40 for 2, Hammond being 17 and Leyland
