PARIS FASHIONS
Hats, Furs, And Colours
There is a lull in the creation
Bre
of new fashions. New materials will be shown early next year. In the meantime women, wearing hats trimmed with jaunty bows set back on the head. The
black felt cap or bonnet which Ats the head may have a satin or ciré bow in black or it may be of
colour, or ined with colour, such
as pale rose or almond green. On
a black, brown, or any dark cap or bonnet, jewelled clips, are worn, A fair illustration of fashion is a golden-haired girl in a long mink coat, worn over a simple brown woollen frock and with a brown felt hat, the crown of which is conical and the brim oval, turn- ed back on the crown with a fac- ing of mink. This hat is worn far back on the head to show the brow and the hair is parted in the muddie,
Brown furs ara fashionable: mink beaver, nutria, "brown ermine are prominent. A brown ermine coat with brown tafetas ning has quilted taffetas revers and a quilted taffetas belt. The quilting is done in rows not in diamonds. The Schiaparelli fashion of trim- ming coats with lapels of fox fur and no collar is often seen. At 3 restaurant luncheon it was twice illustrated once on a broadcloth coat and again on velvet. The coats are three-quarter length with patch pockets on the hips of the slightly flared basques, trim- ided with fox fur to match the lapels. The bare neckline is sof- tened by a folded silk scarf in colour or “in black "and held in place by a beautiful jewelled pin. The dress under the cost may be of the same material Fur le dyed specially to trim coloured ensem- bles. Blue for
goes on brown coats On wine red cloth navy blue fur is used. Red fox goes on black. Beaver goes on dark green. The shoulder line of cloth coats is straight and wide, the flared tunic line to long basques is usual. The rather short skirt for after- noon is liked better than that of ankle length, while for informal evening parties it is permissible to wear dresses which scarcely cover the ankles. The open neck line is right for the afternoon. Blouses and dresses alike are cut to a square or a point in front. This has brought back the fashion of necklaces and pendants of colour- ed jewels. Emeralds, rubles, sap- phires, and less expensive stones. such as topaz, amethysta, and gar- neta. are worn at the throat. A new way of wearing pearls is to twist a double row close to the throat to maké a collar.
Colour is certainly one of this season's outstanding fashions. Wine reds, slate blue, cool greens, light and dark, brown in tobacco and chestnut shades, are all worn. Black prevails in Paris, but in the South, in the country anywhere, colours are right. Imitations of
CORONATION COIFFURE
Ensuring Comfort In Wearing Coronets
"TOP WAVING ®
WITH SIDE AND
NECK CURLS":
The decision that peeresses must weur coronets at the Coronation on May 12 has made it necessary that a modern hair-dressing style should be created to ensure that the coronet can be worn with as- surance and comfort:
The Fashions Committee of the Hairdressers General Committee I now designing the official Coro- ration colffure. Mr. T. Earnshaw, chairman of the Committee and Worshipful Master of the Incor porated Gulld of Hairdressera, Wigmakers and Perfumers, gave me the following description of what it will be like:"
►
The Coronation colture will be: a sleek topwaying with side and neck curls. There will be nothing harah in the style. It will be very soft "and very feminine; somewhat shorter than the style of the Inst few years, but not so short as the severe style of 1929-30.
"The official design will be sent to all secretaries of established trade organisations, and though it may not be copied exactly, it will be the basis of hair-dressing fashion for the Coronation though- out the country.
NO "SWITCH" NECESSARY "The design will enable a coro- net to be worn with safety and without difficulty. It will not be necessary for a peeress to attach to her hair a 'hunting switch' or any other type of plait, The coronet has a soft velves pudding: It has no additional ‘gadgets" or springs. It is designed to sit firm- ly on the head, even if there is not much hair, just as a close-fitting" hat fits without pins."
Mr. Earnshaw added that a tiara might be worn without dimenity with the new hair design. The wearing of it is a matter of per- sonal taste,
A member of the firm of Garrard and Co. Ltd., the Crown Jewellers, said that their workmen-skill- ed craftsmen who had been in the firm a lifetime-Were busy making coronets for peeressen, the ma- jority of whom did not possess them.
"The standard size of a peeress's coronet, is 5in in diameter,” he said, "and it takes about three weeks to make. The cost is from £18 to 25. There is also a de-
