They were: (a) fraudulent con version of $20,00`on · January 5, 1935; (b) fraudulent fixing of a sum of $23 on January 5, 1935; (c) fraudulent conversion of $83 on April 1, 1935; (d) fraudulent fix- ing of stamps to the sum of $26 on April 1, 1935; (e) fraudulent conversion of $64.80 on November

23, 1935 and (1) fraudulent con version of a sum of $85.25 on November 23, 1935, from the Union Insurance Society of Canton, Ltd.

Mr. E. H.. Williams, the Assistant Attorney-General, · appeared for the prosecution while Mr. Lea D'Almada, Snr, represented the defendant.

The first witness was Mr. Bent- ley of the Secretarial Department

of the Union Insurance Society of Canton who stated that the de- fendant had been working under him since 1920. "The defendant was the share clerk and I am fami- 11a7 with his work. On July 31 of this year the defendant re- signed from the Company. It was on August 30 that I received a letter from the accused, It was from that letter that the Com-

pany discovered the fraudulency that had been going on.

Mr. Bently, on being cross- examined by Mr. D'Almada added that defendant first joined the Company in October, 1905, and re- signed in July, 1910. and than he was re-employed in 1913 til July 1936. The accused had worked for the Company for twenty eight years. Mr. Bentley further ad- mitted that, up to the end of 1934.
