We have found by long experience that, as a general rule, our own boys who go right through from Class 8 are better than those who join later; their work is neator, they are more ac- curate, more orderly, more accus- tomed to discipline and hard work. Yet the life and growth are there, strong, pulsating, fruitful; and when one looks backward trom some vantage-point over a longer period of fchool activity. it is easy to see and to appreciate the resulta achieved.

Such a vantage-point is this Annual Report of the Prefect of Studies. It is meant to provide at once a summary of the work done during the year that has passed, and a statement of our hopes and aspirations for the year to come.
Our last Prize Day, the most am- bitious and successful in the his tory of the school, was held on De- cember 21 1935, in the Queen's Theatre. The theatre was packed to overflowing. and the large bu dience followed with keen Interest the musical and dramatic items provided. A Chinese and an Eng- lish play were presented, the later an adaptation of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" both plays were excellently acted and produced. The prizes were given away by the Director of Education, Mr. G. R. Sayer.

The school, this year us last year, is full; there are hardly half- a-dozen vacant places in all our twenty-three classes. The average attendance has, again, been ama- zingly good, over 98% for the year; at least one class, 3A, has not had a single absentee for over a month at a time, and many other classes were little inferior.

REPORT OF SCHOOL The College now counts an en- rolment of just 900, a slight in- crease on last year's figures. It was not our original intention to in- crease our numbers this year: in- deed, by cutting out two classes, 1B and 2C we made provision for a smaller school. The increase is due to two factors, both somewhat unexpected: first, the big demand for admission to the newly-formed commercial classes, and second, the excellent quality of the new boys applying for admission. J
