Function Opened By Mrs. T. H. King

There was a large attendance at the annual sale of work, which' was organised in aid of the Min- istering Children's League other local charitable institutions under the combined auspices of Fairlea Girls' School and St. Ste- phen's Girls' College, at Bonham Road on Saturday.

At 11a.m. Mrs. T. H. King wife of the Inspector-General of Police and President of the Ministering Children's League, opened the bazaar. She was met by the Rev. G. E. Carpenter. Hon. Secretary of the Christian Missionary Society. After declaring the bazaar open and wishing it success, Mrs. King was the recipient of-bandiwork made by the senior girls of the two schools. Miss Fung Fung-ting made the presentation on behalf of the St. Stephen's Girls' College, and Miss Fung In-wah on behalf or the Fairlea Girls' School,

Among those on the platform were MISS Wise. principal of St Stephen's Girls' College, Mrs. Cheung. principal Of Fairlea School, the Rev. John Chung, of St. Stephen's Church, and Mrs. E. W. L. Martin, wife of the Warden of St. Stephen's Boys' College."

Included in the various stalls were two consisting of beautiful hand-embroidered work, which

were the contributions of the pu pils of the Deaf and Dumb School and the Victoria Home. There

were also lucky dips, confection- ery. flowers, toys, games, ishing pond, books, and many other

stalls.

Twice during the afternoon, the students of both schools staged a play, "Strange Will," which was adapted from Rider Haggard's novel.

In a Caer Clark Cup match play ed at King's Park on Saturday the YMCA. Ladies defeated the Hong Kong Ladies by 4 goals to 1, arter leading by three clear goals at the Interval, thus breaking the latter's hitherto unbeaten record.

The hockey displayed was of a high standard:

The " forwards displayed good combination. There was no delay In passing and the passes were well placed. In the centre Mrs. Read distributed the ball well,

In the defence Miss A. Fowler was outstanding with hard kitting and good interceptions, and Miss Tone and Miss Lakeman perform- ed creditably as wing-halves,

"The Hong Kong Ladles' defence found the "Y" forwards in such form that they were not able to assist their forwards to any great extent. Mrs. Donald was promin- ent in the forward line, but was not fully supported.

The "Y" scored their goals Mrs. Read (2) Miss M. Smith ̈(2). Mrs. Donald scored for the losers.

C.B.A. DRAW

An exciting game was seen at the Police Training School on Saturday when the Central British Association Ladies were held to a goalless draw by the Recreio Ladies.

The C.B.A. made early attacks. On several occasions they missed. opportunites of scoring through inaccurate passing, "but Recreio owed much to their two full-backs, Miss Q. Botelho and Miss C. Os- mund, for the strong defence they put up.
