bad just finished Baby's evening toilet, and as I was going in to the bathroom, she offered me baby's tin of Cuticura Talcum. I've never known anything so soothing-it is the finest talcum powder I've ever known-after strenuous exercise I ask for no better pick- me-up than a bath finished off with this talcum. The perfume alone made me love it at once-such a delicate, sweet fragrance."

It is because of its fineness and absolute purity that Cuticura Talcum is recommended by doctors and nurses for a baby's sensitive skin. And this is the reason why women find it a joy to use after bathing or when- ever the skin is chafèd and feels tender. No other powder is so satiny smooth-it is like a cooling balm on a hot skin. And its sweet, "refreshing fragrance perfumes the whole body long afterwards.

happen to be Chairman) to press or with as much vigour as has been displayed in the past, with the

many matters which still confront us.

I I may be permitted for a short while to look back, I would

point out that it is now appro- ximately 18 months since this or- ganization was founded and that in that period we have formed an undertaking which is the largest of its kind, afflllated to the Na-

tional Rifle Association at home, In the Empire. You have been good enough, Str, to refer to those encouraging words which were

used by the Secretary of State for War at a recerit dinner th Lon- don and I would like to assure you, and those present here this evening, that we are very gratif. ed that our Association was singled out for special commenda- tion, and that we intend to do qui utmost to justify those flattering remarks.

"ASSOCIATION'S GROWTH

The growth of our Association is in the main due to the enor- mous amount of energy and en- thusiasm put into it by our ubiquitous Honorary • Secretary Major Steers. With him at the helm, the work of the remainder of the Officers and Gouncil has been a sinecure.

"

As Your Excellency is aware, our "Bisley" Meeting proved to be a distinct success and I attribute this in no smali degree to the in-1 terest and encouragement which you gave us in connection with that event. There is no possible doubt in my mind, or in the mind of any one else who was present at that Meeting. that the prize which you so kindly donated was Indeed the chief and "very real attraction and I am sure that all the members of this Association will be both pleased and grateful when I tell them, as you have authorized me to-night to tell them, that Your Excellency pro- poses to give a similar prize for our Meeting next year

NEW PAVILION

Our pavilion, which we hope will be officially opened shortly, comp.etes our Initial programme and my Council and I derive the greatest satisfaction from the fact that we have been able to do what we have, in the last year- and-a-half, without "having to go to Government for financial sistance. At the same time, to have evolved and carried" through such a programme has, not un- naturally seriously depleted our financial resources and I make an appeal to all present this evening to All up one of those forms which

as-

will now be passed round to you, and to help us as much as you

we feel fully justified in renewing our ples for shooting facilities on the Army Ranges at the only time suitable for the civilian com- munity, that is at week-ends..

I cannot refrain from mention- ing the newly-organised "Bisley" Rifle Clubs In the battalions of the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the Royal Ulster Rifles. The formation of these clubs has had ап Lamense effect membership of this Association, which, as I speak, stands at 457 members and over 5,100 amlated members; and which I am happy to say is stll steadily growing. Nor Is this the only result, for the large attendances on the ranges of late is proof, indeed, of the keenness engendered by these clubs, while it is largely owing to them that the very large, at- tendance here to-night is due. TU these und all the other affiliated Rue Clubs, I offer the grateful thanks of myself and my Council for their support during the first year of our existence, and welcome this opportunity of reiterating that the Council will never be satisfled until we possess those week-end range facilities which we consider right to expect.

"Salling" told what" this real artist could achieve in the Impor- tant and extremely difficult mat- ter of harmonious contrasts, and "Sung Wong To!" was much the same for its depth and power.

Big, bold and beautiful. "Autumn Evening-Peking,” was a canvas which rivetted my attention for a long time. It is a picture, the full charm of which is not to be ob- tained at a glance. It is a canvas to study, and very well worth all the study you can give it. Not that it is stifling with complexities. No, it is simple in theme, but it is, perhaps less simply treated than one might have expected

LETTER FROM HOME in the course of his speecli. Major Walker read a letter from Lord Cottismore, Chairman of the National Rifle Association, con- gratulating the Hong Kong Rifle remains Association on the wonderful pro the Association's principal progress made during the past year. Accommodation is some and expressing best wishes for times provided at Stonecutters by the first annual dinner and the courtesy of the Naval Authorities, future. ,but this is regarded by my Council as a most unsatisfactory pallia- tive owing to transport and other dimculties. The Secretary of State for War Baid recently the Army Counell was sympathetic towards and an- xious to do all it could for the National Rifle Association, not de- because the Association was veloping the highest form of sid in rifle shooting, but also because it was helping to keep alive the spirit of self-defence which obliga- tion had to be brought home to
