“WHITE FANG"

Replete with the romance of the far North and filled with the drama

the of lawless frontier. "White Fang." closes to-day at the King's Theatre, with Michael Whalen and Jean Muir heading an exceptional cast.

"White Fang" weaves a thrilling story of gold and greed, love and danger. Intermingled with the narrative is the biography of Lightning, the mighty son of Buck, the dog-star of "Call-Of the Wild." and she-wolf.

Whalen. an adventurer down on his luck, is persuaded by Thomas Beck, a newcomer to the North, th guide him on a long trek into the interior in search of a gold mine bequeathed to Beck and his sister.

Whalen acquiesces and the long. nerve-wrecking trip over the ice and snow-their adventures-are well depicted,

David Butler directed "White Fang." In which Charles Winner- ger the original radio "Cap'n Henry" is also featured. The screen play was written by Gene Fowler, Hallong and 8. G. Duncan. Bogart Rogers was associate pro- ducer.

**DESIRE"

All screen lovers who count Mar- lene Dietrich, and Gary Cooper among their favourites have a rare trent waiting for them at the

· Majestic · Theatre, where the new Paramount romantic comedy, "De- sire." "opens to-day. It is the first time this glamorous pair has been cast together since "Morocco."

Comedy, drama and adventure are expertly interwoven into the texture of this exciting and divert- ing alm, which recounts the ro- mantic adventures that follow a sensational jewel robbery by a breath-taking Continental beauty, The clever way in which Miss Diet- rich purloins a costly string of pearls while the owner and a psychiatrist are going through a comedy of errors, of her contriving. cannot be divulged as it would eliminate the surprise that attends this amusing situation.

The romance is bright, ardent, believable. These screen lovers be- long together. Director Frank Bor- zage certainly was perspicacious when he placed there first in a list he prepared of the outstariding screen lovers of all time. They belong at the top of the list, if only because of their brilliant per- formance in "Desire."

Fine work is done by the mem- bers of the supporting cast which includes John Halliday, William Frawley. Ernest Cossart and Alan Mowbray.

MIDSUMMER

NIGHT'S DREAM"

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" Warner Bros, mammoth spectacle will be seep at the Oriental Theatre to-day and to-morrow. and on account of the unusual length of the picture there will be three performances daily at 2.30 pm, 6.00 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.

Reinhardt's. stage production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is a revelation. He made it interest- ing. With the resources of the great Warner Bros, organization at his command-unlimited technical factities, stars and writers--thia man whose genius rebuilt the world's stage, has shattered the comparatively young precedents of the screen.

"A Midsummer Night's Dream" is a mighty epic of the screen produced by Max Reinhardt and directed by himself and William Dieterle. The dances were direct- ed by Bronisława Nijinska and Nina Thellade and set to the beau- tiful music of Mendelssohn as ar- ranged by Erich Wolfgang Korn- gold. There is an all star cast cast which includes James Cagney, Joe E. Brown, Dick Powell, "Jean Muir, Victor Jory, Verree Teasdale. Anita Louise, Hugh Herbert, Frank McHugh and scores of others. The screen play is by Charles Kenyon and Mary McCall, Jr., Costumes are by Max Ree, noted designer.
