EMBEZZLEMENT CHARGE
Joseph Charles Gardner, 48, un-
employed, was charged before Mr. K. Keen at the Central Magistracy yesterday for the Iraudulent conversion of $154.80 from the Union Insurance Society of Canton on June 16.
It was "alleged that Mr. L. A. Osborne, his superior, sent him to purchase revenue stamps with that sum of money, but defendant con- verted it to his own use.

Hong Kong took on a festival garb yesterday on the occasion of the arrival of the distinguished visitors from Canton; and the City of Victoria had the appearance of celebrating a national holiday. The Union Jack and the Chinese Nationalist flags were 'flown side by side over all the leading business and shopping, esta- blishments as a sign of, welcome to His Excellency the Chairman of the Kwangtung Provincial Government and His Honour the Mayor of Canton.
